Murungai Keerai usili recipe – How to make Drumstick Leaves stir-fry recipe
Murungai keerai /Drumstick leaves rich in nutritional values and a good source of vitamins, minerals, and protein. This usili/patoli is cooked along with chana dal and is best served with rice. So try this easy and tasty side dish.

Drumstick leaves stir fry - A simple and healthy South Indian stir fry recipe with drumstick leaves and goes well with hot rice.
- 3 cups Drumstick leaves (loosely packed)
- 2 tbsp Bengal gram / Chana dal
- 5 tbsp Grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Mirchi powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp Urad dal
- 5 tsp Oil
- 2 Green chilis

Soak chana dal in a cup of water for 2 hours. Drain the water and pulse it in a mixer to grind coarsely.

Take it into a bowl and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal and let them splutter. Add green chilies and fry it.

Now add washed drumstick leaves, turmeric and salt (add salt only for drumstick leaves) and fry for few minutes. Add water till immersing level and cook for approx 25 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Fry until the leaves are cooked and you get a nice aroma. Then add steamed chana dal, grated coconut, and salt for chana dal and make a stir to combine all well.

You can add red chili powder if it is not much spicy. That's it drumstick leaves usili is ready to serve. Serve it with hot rice and dollop of ghee. 🙂
